Sharing My Own Joy…
I love my job. It’s got all the things: creativity, antique letterpress printing, husband + wife team, design collaboration, a fun work environment, great co-workers… oh— And it’s mine! Which is still kind of mind-blowing, even after fifteen years in business. I own this thing!
But it’s not all rainbows and unicorns over here. We have moments—like the time we had to reprint the same job three times and the client still hated it. Or the days I spend mostly putting out fires. I’ve managed dissatisfied employees. And believe it or not, there are moments Ty and I argue at work (gasp!) and cannot get on the same page.
It may be creative and fun sometimes, but then occasionally it isn’t. Probably just like your day-to-day. Being a stay-at-home-mom may not always be a delight and joy. Sometimes it’s poop and whining and Little Baby Bum 20 times over.
With all of those distractions, there have been seasons where I feel the flame burn out. My desire for design and creativity dwindles. The to-do list overwhelms me and I can no longer find the joy in the work. Thankfully, when this happens, I have an outlet: My Own Christmas Card.
Yes, no matter the season; I start thinking about our family Christmas card in the spring. It’s a special project that I get to design just for me. No client to please. Nobody else’s taste to consider—just me and whatever is in my heart, poured out on paper. At The Happy Envelope our tagline is Share your Joy, because that’s exactly what we do: help people share their happy moments with others. Whether they are sending an invitation to a wedding or a party, or gifting a friend with one of our products, they are sharing their joy.
I suppose that when I send out our personal Christmas card, I’m sharing my own joy, and it refreshes my spirit. I find myself on the other side of the table, and I really like being there. Sometimes, you just need to make space and tap in to your own joyful thing.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours, with joy!
